Dear Redeemed in Christ,

Thank you for your prayers and ongoing concerns for our family here in Togo. All is well for us and we are settled into our new school year. With this email comes the belated announcement of the beginning of the school year, belated due to the weak or non-existent internet. Such is life here, but believe it or not, we get along quite well!

Continue to pray for the students and their health, as this is the end of the rainy season and malaria is all too common. Rejoice also in the recent birth of a student's daughter who was also baptized yesterday.

If you are on Facebook, feel free to find my page to see recent pictures of our visit to a mission congregation in Tamongue, Togo. This is a village which is nearly 99% animist, but the Lord is working there. This past Saturday saw the baptism of 130 people into Christ (unfortunately we were unable to attend). These candidates, mostly children, came from this town and a neighboring village where a congregation already is established. It always amazes me to see the number of children who continually and voluntarily attend weekly services. To God alone be the glory!

Christ's peace be yours in abundance,

Dear friends at Zion Lutheran Church,

Greetings in the Name of Jesus! Thank you for your gift of $600.00 received on 08/30/2018 to support our work with Alaska Mission for Christ.  You are an important part of the team that enables us to live and work here in Alaska and we deeply appreciate your prayers and support. You are a blessing to us!

Summer is always a whirlwind of ministry here in Alaska made possible by the nearly 500 volunteers to who come to form relationships and lead Vacation Bible Schools, Art Camps, Sports Camps and to serve in other ways.  We are blessed to join in several of these events that take place within the Copper River Valley in locations like Copper Center, Kenny Lake, Chitina, Gakona, Mentasta, and Tanacross as we continue to build relationships and minister throughout the entire year.

The realities of winter in Alaska are upon us already as the night temperatures are freezing and everyone is hustling to salvage what is left outside in our gardens.  The bright yellow and orange trees are magnificent on the sunny days, but we know that one windy day will make them all disappear and whisk us quickly into winter.  Our hearts are heavy with the news this week of another young man committing suicide, several people we know struggling with debilitating depression, and a local teen making poor decisions in the “big city”.  The realities of living in the state with the second highest suicide rate in the US hit us close to home.

Most of all, we encourage you to pray for us and for our work with Alaska Mission for Christ.  The next 10 days will include a visit to Juneau to preach and connect with missionary Aaron Spratt and his family, potlatch and burial for the young man who committed suicide, an LWML Fall Retreat hosted in Copper Center, an AMC Mission and Ministry meeting in Anchorage, worship services in Copper Center, and the usual emails, phone calls, planning, and home visits.

Thank you for praying for us and our work with Alaska Mission for Christ.  Jesus is with you.

Todd and Kim Roeske, Kalae, Karis, and Amani
